You have a book.
You need an index.
You can do it better.

Indexer can help.

Indexer shows you a page of text, its index entries (in yellow), and a list of all possible index entries. One double click adds an entry to a page. When you are done, Indexer formats the index from your entries.

Many authoring tools let you capture index entries as you write. But who wants to interrupt the writing flow to think about the index? Indexer is compatible with all authoring tools because it reads plain text—a form easily derived from MSWord, Word Perfect, Adobe Acrobat for .pdf files, and other author tools.

Indexer has created indices for three books. Now it needs a few more users to guide improvement. Become a user and I will help you make your index. In particular, since Indexer has limited index formatting, I will reformat your index as needed.

Other indexing tools: Professional indexing tools like CINDEX and SKY Index concentrate on editing the index itself. Indexer is a feeder task--ensuring that the right index entries are associated with each page of text. Yet other tools augment one specific word processor, as DEXter works with MSWord. For a comprehesive list of indexing tools, see Software Tools for Indexing.
