You
have a book.
You need an index.
You can do it better.
IndexGofer can help
IndexGofer shows
you a page of text, its index entries (in yellow), and a list of all
possible index entries. One double click adds an entry to a
page. When you are done,
IndexGofer formats the index from your entries. |

IndexGofer main window and terms list
Terms Editor window |
Essential to a good index is a good set of terms. With IndexGofer you edit the terms list in a tabular display, as at the right. Trigger phrases are in the left column while terms, sub terms, and reference terms are to the right. |
To the right is a bit from the index generated for Hansen, Susan B., Religion and Reaction (Rowman & Littlefield, 2011)
IndexGofer has created indices for three books. Now it needs a few more users to guide improvement. Become a user and I will help you make your index. In particular, since IndexGofer has limited index formatting, I will reformat your index as needed. |

Other indexing tools: Professional indexing tools like CINDEX and SKY Index concentrate on
editing the index itself. IndexGofer is a feeder task--ensuring that the right index entries are
associated with each page of text. Yet other tools augment one
specific word processor, as DEXter works with MSWord. For a comprehesive list of indexing tools, see Software Tools
for Indexing.
