July 9 - Changdoekgung Palace

 Changdoekgung Palace (the one with the secret garden) is in the city. Waiting for our tour (the one in English) outside the palace wall. The tour begins at the main gate. In the triple yin-yang, blue is yin (negative), red is yang (positive), and yellow is harmony. Sites and treasures are numbered.
  Throne room. Stone markers in courtyard show where each rank of officials is to stand. King's stairway is in the middle. Throne itself. Moving on toward the residence area.
 Detail of roof.  Looking back at throne room area. Gargoyles guard the rooms below from devils all around. A "jade" decorates a garden nook.
 Residence rooms are not huge. Note the shutters that swing down. A cottage across the pond from the library. Gate to library. (She had me take her picture with her camera, so I shot her with mine as well.) Canes for the old men of the forest. My version of a scene S found on a calendar.
 Where relatives of the monarchy lived until quite recently. Tiger lily. The tiger is a sykbol of Korea. An older grandfather needs a bigger cane. Our guide. Traditional clothes acccessorized with a PA system.
