At Gweoreung Tomb, some kids relished having their picture taken. Others were paying attention to the teacher -- or not. Even adults didn't devote full attention to the tour guide describing the statue of the Arabian man. Waiting for noon to bong the gong. The penultimate step in the gong bonging dance.
On the trail to Seokguram Grotto. Out lady of the microphone holds forth upon the Grotto. The serene Buddha behind glass in the grotto. The grotto is not natural; rocks were fitted closely together to make it. They raise money by selling roof tiles on which you write your own message of peace. Your tile is not alone.
Many dragonflies basked or flitted. I've not seen them in the States for many years. Lunch was fish stew. At left is a professor from the University of Pennsylvania. At right is Grant, a rancher from New Zealand. Visitors to King Munmu's Underwater Tomb--the rocky island just offshore. These visitors wanted me in their picture. A ball of tar.
One of the two pagodas remaining at the Gameunsaji temple site. View from the temple of the road, the rice fields, and the mountains beyond. You dine not at these Kimchee pots, but rather at a nice restaurant just out of view to the right. Our destination is the rock-hewn Buddha under the glass roof, far above. The temple halfway up the hill.
Getting own was no snap either. A cave temple just beneath the main Buddha. Gyoengju seems far away from the Buddha. I made it. And I got back, too. Others had their own ideas of what shots to take.
